Cris Cyborg UFC 232 blog: Clarissa Shields to ex-champ: ‘You shouldn’t have been out there just trying to brawl’

Amanda Nunes and Dana White don’t seem that into the idea of booking an immediate rematch between “The Lioness” and Cris Cyborg after the 51-second knockout win for Nunes at UFC 232 on Dec. 29, but the former UFC featherweight queen won’t give up that easily.

Cyborg, who also held the 145-pound belts in Strikeforce and Invicta FC before joining the UFC, released a video on her Youtube channel with backstage footage before and after her UFC 232 defeat in Inglewood.

In the video, Academy Award winner Halle Berry hangs out with Cyborg after the fight, saying the Brazilian “is a true champion and she’ll be back”. Cyborg also meets two-time Olympic gold medalist in boxing, Clarissa Shields, who comments on her strategy against Nunes.

“What the fuck?” Shields told Cyborg in the locker room. “I’m not mad about the loss. I’m mad because you know how to fucking box. You shouldn’t have been out there just trying to brawl. What you do that for? No. You fucking jab with me. Jab with her short ass. What the fuck?”

In the end, Cyborg left a message for her fans, guaranteeing that her second-ever loss in MMA “put a fire in my heart”, and made her case for an immediate rematch against the fellow Brazilian.

”The first thing I did after the fight was message my manager and say ‘man, I want a rematch,’” Cyborg said. “I (was) 13 years undefeated, I have three belts in different organizations, different matchmakers, different fighters, and I think I deserve that. And I don’t think you guys want to see a different fight. Everybody wanna watch this rematch.

”I know I have my last fight in the contract with the UFC, we gonna make everything possible we can do to make this fight happen. If it doesn’t happen, 2019 is just starting. I want you guys know I want to fight a lot and I want to do the biggest fights and money I can make this year and continue my legacy.”
