Video: Khamzat Chimaev Shoves Ian Garry Backstage After UFC Qatar

Khamzat Chimaev apparently had no interest in exchanging pleasantries with Ian Garry.

Chimaev was present at UFC Qatar to help corner Arman Tsarukyan, who submitted Dan Hooker with a second-round arm-triangle choke in the evening’s lightweight headliner. The middleweight champion later crossed paths backstage with Ian Garry, who earned a decision triumph over Belal Muhammad in the welterweight co-main event.

It appeared that the Irishman was simply interested in being friendly, as he told security personnel, “He’s not gonna fight me.” However, Chimaev seemed to take exception to that statement and shoved Garry shortly thereafter. The two fighters were quickly separated by security without any further incident.

‘That’s Just Childish’

“That’s just childish. You’re meant to be a champion in this sport,” Garry says to Chimaev as he walks away. “Your friend just won. Don’t ruin his victory. Arman, congratulations.”

Chimaev, who began his UFC career competing at 170 pounds, captured middleweight gold with a dominant victory against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319 this past August. “Borz” is expected to be sidelined until at least March due after undergoing surgery on his foot. Garry, meanwhile, is among the top contenders at welterweight following his victory over Muhammad.

“A champion or a child? So unnecessary,” Garry added in a caption to the video posted on his Instagram account.
