The UFC has repaid Waldo Cortes-Acosta’s favor.
Cortes-Acosta scored a “Performance of the Night” bonus for knocking out Shamil Gaziev on three days’ notice at UFC Qatar last weekend. This marked Cortes-Acosta’s second consecutive POTN bonus in a three-week turnaround.

Cortes-Acosta took on Ante Delija at a UFC Fight Night earlier this month. “Salsa Boy” miraculously recovered from a vicious eye poke and knocked out Delija in the first round. Cortes-Acosta’s short-notice matchup against Gaziev was the last fight on his previous UFC contract. Cortes-Acosta revealed that he already has a new contract with the UFC, which is life-changing for his family. To acknowledge his efforts, the UFC even included Cortes-Acosta’s fight against Gaziev under the new contract.
“We already made a new contract,” told Hablemos MMA. “The [Gaziev] fight got into that new contract. Well, it was really really good. The whole family is very happy. Everyone is happy. It’s changing lives.”
Ready to Go Again
Cortes-Acosta (16-2) has already fought five times this year, only losing to Sergei Pavlovich. The Dominican wants to fight once more this year to set the record for the most UFC outings in a year. While Cortes-Acosta’s finger was slightly injured from his win over Delija, he has come out unscathed from his last win over Gaziev.
“I’m ready to fight [December],” he said. “I didn’t leave with any injuries. I didn’t leave tired, I didn’t bleed… Neither does my hand hurt. I now feel like I hit well… The other hit landed a bit on the little finger and it hurt. But now it came out well, I really like how I’m hitting.”
