Watch Sydney Sweeney spar with boxing legend Christy Martin during filming of biopic

Actress Sydney Sweeney took her job seriously after accepting a role to portray boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic, and she even got in the ring with the former champion to prove it.

A clip released by TMZ shows the Euphoria actress trading hands with Martin while filming the movie about her life. While she was somewhat new to boxing, Sweeney is actually an avid UFC fan and she has trained in both MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the past.

Sweeney took on the highly physical role while getting in tremendous shape to play the boxer, who she paid homage to after filming wrapped late last year.

“We have wrapped filming Christy Martin’s story and it has been one of the most emotional, transformative experiences of my life,” Sweeney wrote on Instagram. “Christy’s journey is so deeply inspiring, and having her by my side during this process was nothing short of surreal. There were moments on set where I’d glance over at her standing by the monitors, cheering us on, and I’d just become so emotional.

“Knowing what she’s endured, what she’s pushed through to be there in that moment—it made me want to cry.”

Prior to the sparring footage being released, Sweeney also clapped back at numerous online trolls who insulted her looks and body transformation after she spent weeks getting in shape to play a boxer in the upcoming biopic.

Sweeney posted a video showing off her transformation and the hard work she endured to not only look like Martin in the film but also display the physical attributes that made her such a force in the ring.

There’s still no official title or release date for the biopic, but it’s expected that the movie ends up in theaters before the end of 2025.
