Watch Yoel Romero blast Chris Weidman: UFC 248 fight video

Yoel Romero is headed into his fourth attempt at winning a UFC middleweight title. He’ll challenge undisputed champion Israel Adesanya in the UFC 248 main event on March 7 in Las Vegas, despite coming off of back-to-back losses.

Romero has had a troubled history when it comes to UFC title fights. He’s been tapped for some version of the middleweight title on three previous occasions. He lost in two of those fights, while also missing weight in two of them.

Romero could have become the interim UFC middleweight champion with his win over Luke Rockhold in early 2018, but missed weight ahead of that fight, as he did before losing to then-champion Robert Whittaker in his next bout.

Though Paulo Costa would be the obvious choice for the next shot at Adesanya, he is injured and the champion called for Romero. So that’s the fight the UFC made, despite Romero having lost three of his last four fights.

Romero earned his first shot at the UFC interim middleweight championship with this dramatic knockout victory over Chris Weidman at UFC 205 in 2016. Romero gets another shot, this time at undisputed middleweight gold, at UFC 248.
