UFC featherweight Yair Rodriguez will be out for the rest of 2025 after undergoing surgery on Tuesday.
According to ESPN Deportes, the Mexican standout suffered an injury to his left hand in a victory over Patricio Freire at UFC 314 on April 12. While the procedure was a success, “El Pantera” won’t be able to resume training until two to four months at a minimum.
Rodriguez Bypassed Surgery in Hopes of Title Shot
Rodriguez initially avoided surgery because there was a possibilty he would receive a featherweight title shot against Alexander Volkanovski at Noche UFC. However, plans changed after Volkanovski said he was unable to fight on that date and the event was moved from Monterrey, Mexico, to San Antonio, Texas. Volkanovski’s next title defense is currently unknown, as the promotion already has title bouts for its final two numbered events of 2023.
Rodriguez previously faced Volkanovski in a 145-pound title bout at UFC 290, where he suffered a third-round technical knockout defeat in July 2023. The Valle Flow Striking product is 11-4 in UFC competition overall with notable victories over the likes of Josh Emmett, Brian Ortega, Jeremy Stephens, Chan Sung Jung, B.J. Penn and Dan Hooker.
