Chimaev is set to challenge Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight title in the main event at UFC 319 on Aug. 16 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Meanwhile, Pico will make his UFC debut in a potential featherweight title eliminator against Lerone Murphy in the co-main event of the night.

Chimaev and Pico linked up for their UFC 319 camps under the tutelage of S&C coach Sam Calavitta at the “Garage” in California. Pico says training with fighters like Chimaev and Arman Tsarukyan, who are striving to be the best, sets the bar high in the gym. This was Pico’s first time training with “Borz” and the two pushed each other as neither wanted to lose.
Pico: Khamzat Is a Beast
“It’s just awesome to be around guys that have the mindset as you,” Pico told Shak MMA. “They’re trying to be the best in the world and they are training ridiculously hard. So, to be around guys that have the same goal as you – it just ups the bar. This is the first time I ever met Khamzat… He is a beast, he works really really hard. And we were pushing each other. He didn’t want to lose, I didn’t wan to lose, so we had some really good sessions in the Garage with Coach Cal.”
Pico was originally scheduled to make his debut against Movsar Evloev last month before the Russian pulled out. While Pico is riding a three-fight winning streak, the undefeated Murphy has eight UFC wins, with the last three coming against top-tier opponents.
