Alex Pereira claims Magomed Ankalaev hid inside a room when they were both at the UFC Performance Institute.
Pereira will try to reclaim the light heavyweight title from Ankalaev in the main event at UFC 320 on Oct. 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Pereira says he didn’t see Ankalaev but only his coach when he recently visited the PI. One of Pereira’s teammates was still inside when the former champ was already in his car. Pereira’s teammate allegedly heard a PI staff member say that Ankalaev could come out since “Poatan” had left. Pereira slammed Ankalaev for hiding, accusing him of cowardice. Pereira says that he is wise enough not to start a brawl outside the Octagon before his fight. The Brazilian also warned Ankalaev that he’ll have no place to hide when the Octagon is locked behind them on Oct. 4.
Pereira: Ankalaev is a S—-y Champion
“Something funny happened just now when I was leaving the PI,” Pereira said. “I saw Ankalaev’s coach there. I stayed to myself, I didn’t see Ankalaev there… When I got to the car, someone from my team was still inside. And he heard the girl from the PI say to Ankalaev, ‘He can come now, he’s already left.’ Like damn, he was hiding. They hid the guy in a little room man. This guy thinks I’m going to run into him and start fighting. Do I look stupid bro?”
“The fact that the guy hides in a room because I’m in the same place as him. Ah man, he’s a chump. He’s a chump… What kind of champion is that man? A s—t champion. I know that’s harsh but he’s a sh—-y champion man… He’s shown he’s a coward, man. Hiding now. We’ll be in the cage, locked in there. Unless he jumps the fence. He’s a sh—-y champion, this guy. Chama.”
Pereira won and defended his title thrice within a year before losing to Ankalaev at UFC 313 this past May. Meanwhile, Ankalaev is undefeated in 14 outings (1 draw, 1 no contest) since his lone professional loss in his UFC debut in 2018.
