Sean O’Malley Weighs in on Dvalishvili vs. Sandhagen

Sean O’Malley can see the upcoming bantamweight title fight going a couple of different directions. 

Merab Dvalishvili will look to defend his bantamweight title against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 320 on Oct. 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Dvalishvili dethroned O’Malley last year and defended his title in a rematch against “Suga” earlier this year. Dvalishvili dominantly outwrestled O’Malley in their first outing and finished him in their rematch. O’Malley believes Dvalishvili might dole out the same treatment to Sandhagen. However, “Suga” also thinks Sandhagen might be hungry enough to figure out an antidote to Dvalishvili’s wrestling. While O’Malley respects Sandhagen’s cardio, he believes “The Sandman” might gas out if Dvalishvili can impose his will.

O’Malley: UFC 320 Title Fight Could Have Familiar Feel

“I’m so curious how that fight plays out,” O’Malley said on YouTube. “Part of me feels like Merab’s gonna go out there and do kind of what he did to me — grab a hold of him, wrestle, takedown, wrestle, takedown, just kind of stay on him. Then part of me is like Cory’s hungry, Cory wants it, he’s gonna go out there and find a way to win… [Cory’s] got a good gas tank, just depends on what style of fight plays out. If Merab takes him down three, four times, Cory tries to wrestle him, Merab’s gonna outgas him.”

Dvalishvili also defended his title against Umar Nurmagomedov in between his title fights against O’Malley. Meanwhile, Sandhagen has only lost to Nurmagomedov in his last five outings.
