An intriguing flyweight bout is in the works for the UFC’s return to South Korea as Alexandre Pantoja is expected to meet Matt Schnell on Dec. 21.
Multiple sources close to the fight confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday after Schnell first mentioned the matchup on social media. This will be the UFC’s first trip to the city of Busan after previously holding an event in Seoul.
Schnell has rattled off four wins in a row in the flyweight division after starting off his UFC career with a pair of losses. The former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ competitor has picked up back-to-back submission wins over Louis Smolka and Jordan Espinosa to earn a top 10 ranking in the division.
As for Pantoja, he competed on that same season of the reality series before moving onto the UFC roster.
The Brazilian has gone 5-2 since joining the promotion with wins over the likes of Brandon Moreno, Ulka Sasaki and Wilson Reis. Pantoja is coming off a loss in his last appearance after running into Brazilian buzz saw Deiveison Figueiredo in his most recent outing.
Pantoja will attempt to get back on track when he faces Schnell at the UFC card in South Korea in December.
