Carlos Prates doesn’t plan on fighting for much longer.
Prates is set to fight former welterweight champ Leon Edwards at UFC 322 on Nov. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York. “The Nightmare” believes he will be deserving of a title shot if he beats Edwards. Prates revealed that he plans to win the title and defend it in a rematch against Ian Garry before retiring. Garry handed Prates his first UFC loss —and his first overall in six years — this past April. Prates believes he could have won that fight and wants redemption before hanging up his gloves for good. While the 32-year-old Brazilian wants to retire by the age of 35, he doesn’t mind calling it a career even earlier if he becomes a champion soon. As for post-retirement plans, Prates just wants to relax and spend time with family.

Prates Hopes for Eventual Garry Rematch
“I gonna win the belt and then I gonna challenge him [Garry] to do a rematch and then I gonna stop fight MMA… I don’t want to fight too much,” Prates said on “The Ariel Hewani Show.”
“I just want to get the belt and then of course make a rematch against Ian… [Then] just enjoy my life, barbecue, some beers… I plan to fight to 35 but if I become champ early, I gonna stop early.”
While Prates has fought six times in the UFC, he has paid more than his dues on the regional circuit with 29 career outings overall. Known for craving cigarettes, Prates rose to contender status with four straight finishes before losing to Garry. He has since rebounded with a highlight reel finish of Geoff Neal at UFC 319 last month.
