Even though he just earned a signature victory at UFC Perth, Carlos Ulberg isn’t ready to relax just yet.
“Black Jag” vanquished fellow light heavyweight contender Dominick Reyes via first-round knockout in the UFC Fight Night 260 headliner at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, on Saturday night, earning his ninth consecutive triumph within the Las Vegas-based promotion. The performance firmly established Ulberg as potentially the top contender at 205 pounds — which is evidenced by his post-fight plans.

“I told [UFC executive Hunter Campbell] I am prepared to be a backup for next week,” Ulberg said on ESPN+. “Fly me to Vegas and I’ll be there. I am not going to eat or drink anything today. Go spend some time with the family and if need be, I’ll be there to backup anyone for that title shot.”
Regardless of whether or not he officially receives the backup designation for the rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira at UFC 320, Ulberg plans on being cageside in Sin City for the light heavyweight championship fight.
“I’m just putting it in the air,” Ulberg said. “But I’m definitely flying out there. Hunter said, ‘Yep, you’re going to jump on the plane, on the private jet’ and we’re going to be there. At least we’re going to be there and I said if need be, I’ll keep my weight to a minimum and I’ll be there. It’s those opportunities.”
Ulberg Eyes Future Showdown with Ankalaev
Ankalaev captured light heavyweight gold with a unanimous decision triumph over Pereira at UFC 313 this past March. While “Poatan” might be the bigger draw, Ankalaev is in the midst of a 14-bout promotional unbeaten streak. The Dagestani’s run of success is more appealing to Ulberg for a future matchup.
“I would like for Ankalaev [to win],” Ulberg said. “I just feel he is a dominant opponent. For someone in the light heavyweight division, he’s been quite dominant. I would like to take him out so that when I do, it just means that no one has been able to beat him other than Paul Craig but me. I want to do that. He’s good. He’s awesome and I want those challenges.”
