Conor McGregor: Justin Gaethje is ‘On the List’ of Future Opponents

Conor McGregor will make his first Octagon appearance since October 2018 when he faces Donald Cerrone in the UFC 246 headliner on Jan. 18, but he’s already got multiple future opponents in mind in what he’s called his “2020 season.”

One opponent that has seemingly flown under the radar is Justin Gaethje. The former World Series of Fighting lightweight champion has been vocal in his callouts of the Irish star in recent months, and he recently blasted UFC president Dana White for hinting that McGregor would be in line for a 155-pound title shot if he defeats Cerrone.

Gaethje, who is currently on a three-bout winning streak with first-round finishes of Cerrone, Edson Barboza and James Vick, has not escaped the notice of McGregor. The SBG Ireland representative even hinted that he could square off against Gaethje in the coming months if his hopes of a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov do not immediately come to fruition.

“He’s on the list,” McGregor said in an interview with The Mac Life. “Maybe I will face him next. He has it coming to him. I mean, I laugh at Justin. He’s a funny guy. He’s been taking it to heart. I know the feeling when you do that.

“Maybe I’ll get through Donald and I’ll have a quick turn around against Justin. Maybe that’s what will happen, but Justin is on the list no doubt.”
