Former UFC welterweight Ben Askren recently had fans concerned as he battled severe pneumonia. The former Bellator MMA and ONE Championship welterweight title holder recently provided a health update for the first time after undergoing a double lung transplant.

Asken received financial support for the expensive treatment, most notably from his former foe, YouTuber-turned-boxer, Jake Paul. Paul was highly praised for donating $500,000 toward Askren’s treatment. Meanwhile, many wondered if Askren received any help from his former employers, the UFC. But White recently confirmed that he helped Askren financially. However, White mentioned it only when he was asked during a UFC Nashville presser on Saturday. While Paul might have made headlines with his support for Askren, White doesn’t like discussing his benevolence.
UFC CEO: I Don’t Like Talking About That S–t
“I usually don’t talk about that stuff, but yes I did [support him financially]… We reached out to his wife as soon as we heard, told her, ‘If there’s anything you need.’ And yes I did,” the UFC CEO said. “I just don’t like talking about that s—t. That’s between us.”
Askren was undefeated when White traded Demetrious Johnson for him with ONE Championship in 2019. Askren earned a win over Robbie Lawler before consecutive losses against Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia. He retired from MMA in 2019.
