Daniel Cormier Willing to Wrestle Jon Jones, Not Yoel Romero

While Daniel Cormier might consider returning to the wrestling mat, he doesn’t want to face Yoel Romero

With a lot of UFC veterans recently competing in Real American Freestyle wrestling, Cormier also opened up on the possibility of returning to wrestling competition. Cormier would consider wrestling his archenemy, Jon Jones. However, “DC” doesn’t want to fight former UFC middleweight title challenger Romero. Cormier is in awe of Romero, who continues to be active at the age of 49.

“I wouldn’t wrestle Yoel Romero bro, he is still good, he’s like insanely good,” Cormier said on the “Weighing In” podcast. “I’d wrestle Jon Jones.”

Still Going Strong

Romero (16-7) parted ways with the UFC following a failed middleweight title bid against Israel Adesanya in 2020. “Soldier of God” subsequently signed with Bellator MMA, where he unsuccessfully challenged Vadim Nemkov for the light heavyweight title. Romero has recently been active at Dirty Boxing and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship where he has picked up three combined knockout wins.

Romero recently became the RAF interim light heavyweight champion with a technical fall win over former NCAA All-American wrestler Pat Downey. Romero further awed fans by celebrating the win with a cartwheel and backflip. Downey ranks Romero amont his Top 3 toughest opponents and says that wrestling the Cuban felt like wrestling a block of marble.
