Lewis and Cortes-Acosta are scheduled to trade leather in a heavyweight tilt at UFC 324 on Jan. 24 in Las Vegas. Lewis recently revealed that one of the reasons he wants to fight Cortes-Acosta is because of his comments about the color of his skin. Cortes-Acosta recently refused to identify as a Black person, claiming he is Dominican.

“I’m Dominican I’m not Black,” Cortes-Acosta wrote on X. “Love you even the haters.”

A Difference of Opinion
However, Lewis doesn’t think there is any difference between Dominicans and Black people. “The Black Beast” believes Dominicans are not proud of the color of their skin.
“I heard he is Dominican and he don’t represent that he is Black,” Lewis told Full Send MMA. “So that’s another reason why I wanted to fight him also… It ain’t no difference [between Dominican and Black people]. I know it ain’t no difference. Most of the people in Dominican, no offense or anything like that, most of them they don’t like their black skin.”
Cortes-Acosta (16-2) fought five times in 2025, only dropping a unanimous decision against Sergei Pavlovich. “Salsa Boy” is coming off back-to-back first-round knockout wins in a three-week turnaround. Meanwhile, Lewis (29-12) is also on a two-fight finishing streak and handed Tallison Teixeira his lone pro loss this past July.
