Max Holloway Laughs Off Reminders of Alexander Volkanovski Trilogy

Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski can share a laugh despite their iconic rivalry.

Volkanovski and Holloway recently attended a presser to promote their upcoming fights. Speaking of his UFC 325 title rematch against Diego Lopes, Volkanovski said he has experience with rematches. A reporter then reminded Volkanovski of his trilogy with Holloway. Always a sport, Holloway jokingly asked Volkanovski to stop pulling his leg.

“Don’t bring that —it up! Why you have to do that to me, Volk? I’m over here trying to help him get the belt and defend,” Holloway said. “And he go throw me under the bus like that. That’s some bulls—t, Volk.”

Plenty of HIstory

Holloway lost his featherweight title to Volkanovski in their first encounter in 2019. “Blessed” failed to regain his title in their immediate rematch that ended in a controversial split decision. Holloway challenged Volkanovski for the title for the last time in 2022, dropping a unanimous decision.

Volkanovski (27-4) lost the title to Ilia Topuria last year, and Topuria defended the strap against Holloway before moving up to lightweight. Volkanovski won the vacant title against Lopes (27-7) this past April. “The Great” is now scheduled to defend the strap in a rematch against Lopes at UFC 325 on Jan. 31 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Meanwhile, Holloway (27-8) recently moved up to lightweight for good. The Hawaiian is scheduled to fight Charles Oliveira (36-11) for the BMF title at UFC 326 on March 7 in Las Vegas.
