Volkanovski won the featherweight title against Lopes via unanimous decision at UFC 314 last year. Volkanovski is now scheduled to defend his title against Lopes in a rematch at UFC 325 on Jan. 31 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Many believe undefeated contenders Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy deserved a title shot over Lopes. If Lopes wins the rematch, the plot will already be set for a trilogy fight against Volkanovski, leaving Evloev and Murphy out of the mix yet again. Lopes admits that he won’t turn down a trilogy fight against Volkanovski if he wins the rematch. However, Lopes would also like to avenge his short-notice UFC debut loss against Evloev, dating back to 2023. The Brazilian will also be open to defending his title against Murphy.
Open to All Possibilities
“If the UFC wants one more fight with Volk, I’ll take one more fight with Volk,” Lopes told the UFC. “I won’t say no for this, because Volk is a legend… But I want a rematch with Movsar too. Lerone Murphy is okay too.”
Lopes (27-7) rebounded from the loss against Evloev with a five-fight winning streak before his failed title bid against Volkanovski (27-4). Lopes has since returned to the win column by derailing the hype train of fellow Brazilian Jean Silva.
