It’s been nearly three years since Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were supposed to meet at UFC 230 but it appears the bad blood between them has never gone away.
Back then, Poirier was riding an impressive win streak that including stoppage victories over Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez, which then led to the high profile showdown against Diaz with the card scheduled for Madison Square Garden in New York.
Unfortunately, Poirier was forced out of the fight due to injury and the matchup was never rescheduled.
Now just days after the Lafayette, La. native earned a second consecutive stoppage victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 264, Diaz is once again itching to make the fight with Poirier happen.
“185 pounds. Pull up,” Diaz wrote on Twitter while posting a photo of a previous face off with Poirier from 2018.
Diaz, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards in his last outing, has occasionally stoked the flames about revisiting the fight against Poirier and now he’s at it again.
Obviously, Diaz also has history with McGregor after they split a pair of fights back in 2016 and he’s always seemed interested in the biggest matchups possible for his career.
Poirier certainly fits that bill and the former interim UFC lightweight champion was more than happy to answer back to the challenge.
“I’d touch you up at any weight,” Poirier wrote in response to Diaz.

While all signs are pointing towards Poirier moving onto a lightweight title fight against reigning UFC champion Charles Oliveira next, there’s no doubt the interest is still there to settle some unfinished business with Diaz.
Add to that, Diaz and Poirier have both competed in a number of high profile pay-per-view events, which would only serve to further promote a fight between them in the UFC. That could mean a hefty paycheck for both fighters should the UFC actually decide to book the matchup.
It remains to be seen if that will actually happen or not but it definitely appears Diaz is interested in the possibility and Poirier has never been one to back down from a challenge.
