Fighter Sacked After Missing Weight at UFC 317 Gets Another Chance

All hopes of a Ultimate Fighting Championship career are not lost for Christopher Ewert

Ewert stepped up on short notice to replace Sedriques Dumas against fellow undefeated debutant Jackson McVey at UFC 317 on Saturday. After attempting to cut 30 pounds in four days, the middleweight prospect pulled out with 10 pounds left. Ewert was cut from the UFC roster following his withdrawal.

However, Ewert still has another chance to make it to the UFC. “El Tanke” was originally gearing for a Dana White’s Contender Series fight against Yuri Panferov before accepting the short-notice debut offer. According to ESPN’s Carlos Contreras Legaspi, Ewert’s fight against Panferov remains intact on the Contender Series on Aug. 12.

Ewert Still Has Hope for UFC Contract

Ewert has finished five of his seven pro wins so far. Meanwhile, this will be Panferov’s second Contender Series stint after suffering a submission loss against Torrez Finney in 2023.
