Renato ‘Moicano’ Releases Statement on UFC 317 Defeat

Renato “Money Moicano” Carneiro is taking his loss against Beneil Dariush in stride. “Money Moicano” was a slight favorite going into his lightweight clash against Dariush at UFC 317 on Saturday. While Carneiro edged past in the first round, Dariush deployed a wrestling-heavy approach in the following rounds to earn a unanimous decision win.

Carneir thanked his fans for their support while giving Dariush due credit on the win. Carneiro acknowledged the need for significant improvement in his ground game. He also doesn’t want to make any excuses and just informed fans that he is healthy, vowing to come back stronger.

“What’s up everybody? Thank you so much for the support. Tonight was not my night,” he said on Instagram. “I got a little bit tired. But Dariush executed a very good game plan in the second round, he took me down. I need to get way better on the takedown defense. But it is what it is. I have to get back to the training. I know it’s all bulls—t, everything that I will say. F—k. Nobody f—ing cares. But I am just trying to say that I am healthy and I am good. Thank you for the support. I need to get back, I need to get better and I will.”

Moicano Vows to Improve Takedown Defense

This is Moicano’s second loss in a row after being submitted in a short-notice title fight against Islam Makhachev this past January. The 36-year-old was riding a four-fight winning streak with three finishes before that. Meanwhile, Dariush rebounded from consecutive losses against Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan with his first win since October 2022.
