Fighter who suffered horrific leg injury gets Bellator contract

Middleweight Albert Gonzales suffered the same fate as ex-UFC kingpin Anderson Silva when he threw a leg kick.

Now, Bellator is giving Gonzales a second chance after a broken leg ended the up-an-comer’s promotional debut opposite Tyson Miller.

Bellator President Scott Coker on Wednesday announced Gonzales (1-2) is “recovering well” after his horrific injury. When he returns to health, the promoter tweeted, an “exclusive, multi-fight contract” awaits.

A Combate Americas import, Gonzales arrived in Bellator with a 1-1 record as a professional; he went 6-2 on the amateur circuit. His injury occurred on the “post-lims” of Bellator 226, which took place Sept. 7 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.

Gonzales trains at Dethrone Base Camp in nearby Fresno.
