Former champion Aung La N Sang makes return against Shamil Erdogan at ONE 168 in Denver

It’s been more than a year since former multi-division champion Aung La N Sang competed but he’s finally returning to action when he faces undefeated Russian Shamil Erdogan in a middleweight bout at the upcoming ONE 168 card scheduled on Sept. 6 at the Ball Arena in Denver.

ONE Championship officials confirmed the matchup to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

Following the toughest run in his career where the Myanmar native went 1-3 over four fights and lost both his light heavyweight and middleweight titles, he’s bounced back with three straight wins in a row.

His last appearance came in May 2023 when he Fan Rong by guillotine choke at the first ever ONE Championship card in the United States. Now over a year later, Aung La N Sang returns with a chance to make it four in a row against a top rated prospect.

Erdogan comes into the fight with a perfect 9-0 record including a knockout win over Fan Rong in his ONE debut this past June. Prior to his MMA career, Erdogan was a top wrestler representing Turkey where he competed in freestyle wrestling on the international circuit.

Following an impressive debut, Erdogan now seeks an even bigger win facing off with a former champion like Aung La N Sang in September.
