Former UFC Champion Uninjured After Nasty Car Accident in Brazil

As he has proved in the cage time and time again, Deiveson Figueiredo is not one to go down lightly.

On Thursday, the former flyweight king posted on Instagram displaying the aftermath of a car accident he was involved in his home city of Belem, Brazil. The current bantamweight contender posted that he was unhurt despite the violent incident, one in which his car rolled over multiple times. According to the fighter, he was allegedly struck on the side of his SUV at an intersection where the opposing traffic was supposed to stop. The impact of the collision sent the vehicle rolling, which it did repeatedly until coming to a stop. Figueiredo, without any apparent injury, was able to get out of his car and film the damage.

“Thank God for the deliverance,” Figueiredo wrote. “A young woman at high speed, apparently fleeing, emerged from a side street [and hit] the middle of my vehicle, causing the car I was in to roll over several times.”

I Would Really Feel Better if I Got Your Information

While at the scene of the accident, “Daico” made certain to document exactly where it transpired. He displayed the damage on both vehicles, requiring tow trucks. He did also note that the woman who allegedly hit him was also unharmed.

“There’s the STOP [sign] the girl has advanced,” Figueiredo posted hours later to show the intersection and what happened to both vehicles. “Caripunas Street. The front is a main street, Quintinu Bocaiuva. The same one [strongly slammed into the side] of my car! Thank God we’re fine, apparently the girl is fine. Now we need to sort out the [specifics]…”

In competition, Figueiredo recently put a losing streak behind him by taking a decision over Montel Jackson in October. It does not appear that this rolling car accident will put him on the shelf for any foreseeable amount of time, which means that he is still targeting an opportunity to serve as the backup for the bantamweight title tilt between Merab Dvalishvili and Petr Yan headlining UFC 323 in December.

As the Brazilian said, he is ready. He stated, “Merab has already beaten all the top fighters except me, and has already shown interest in fighting me, so if the UFC needs me I’ll be ready. But if they decide I need to have one or two more fights to get to the title shot, I’ll be ready [for that] too.”
