Welterweight Battle (12-2, 1 NC) saw his time with the Ultimate Fighting Championship come to an end in August after missing weight ahead of his middleweight pairing with Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC 319. With Battle exceeding the 186-pound cap by four pounds, his match was canceled and he was released from the organization.

On Friday, the PFL announced that Battle had been signed to their roster as a 185er. It is unclear if he will be participating in next year’s tournament—the middleweight bracket was won by Fabian Edwards in August—or if he will be placed into showcase bouts or in high-profile excursions on their regional spinoff organizations.
No Lack of Suitors for the Season 29 Winner of “The Ultimate Fighter”
Battle burst onto the scene in 2021 when he conquered the middleweight bracket of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 29, where he represented Alexander Volkanovski’s team in the finals and dominated Gilbert Urbina. After bouncing around divisions and egregiously missing weight on multiple occasions, his nine-fight stint with the promotion ended with him departing on a two-fight win streak.
The Hayastan MMA Charlotte-trained athlete was picked up mere days after his release by the new Dirty Boxing promotion helmed by fellow ex-UFC fighter Mike Perry. On less than a week’s notice, he battled Derik de Frietas, and he punished the Brazilian in under a minute to remind fans he remains a threat. The appearance in Dirty Boxing was a one-off, although the PFL did not yet indicate if he was under an exclusive contract or if he would be permitted to appear at other MMA-adjacent combat events.
