Francis Ngannou Calls Out Alexander Volkov Following UFC Moscow

Francis Ngannou does not want to remain on the sideline while Stipe Miocic and Daniel Miocic prepare for a likely trilogy bout.

The French heavyweight contender called out Alexander Volkov on Twitter shortly after the Russian vanquished short-notice foe Greg Hardy in the UFC Fight Night 163 headliner on Saturday. Ngannou reportedly volunteered to step in after Junior dos Santos withdrew from the matchup with Volkov in Moscow, but the fight did not come to fruition.

“Well done Volkov,” Ngannou wrote. “Let’s go now and please don’t turn this down again.”

Ngannou has re-established himself as one of the top contenders in the division with a three-bout winning streak that includes first-round finishes of Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. “The Predator” would normally be in line for a title shot, but UFC president Dana White has indicated that Miocic and Cormier will square off for a third time in 2020. All is not lost for Ngannou, however, as he could headline the UFC’s first ever venture to France at some point next year.

Whether that’s against Volkov remains to be seen. After his win over Hardy, “Drago” said he had ”unfinished business” with dos Santos.
