When you take aim at Jon Jones, he notices.
The UFC light heavyweight champ is an avid consumer of media when his name is involved, and so when apparent No. 1 contender Dominick Reyes praised him in a tweet, he called B.S.
“Now you’re going to show this fake ass respect?” Jones wrote.
You started this whole thing talking about party favors and now you’re going to show this fake ass respect? Serious question Dominic, what exactly is so next generation about you or your fighting style? Youre a new name, that’s the only thing different about you. https://t.co/aBZTr0I2A8

Jones was commenting on Reyes’ apparent show of respect in a previous message. In response to a tweet where he said Reyes was the next title challenger, Reyes wrote he was “a champion so great” and said it was “such an honor” to fight for the title, adding, “I can’t wait for my crack at the king.”
Reyes’ messages came after a spirited post-fight callout after his most recent win, and an interview with MMA Fighting in which he called the champ “a liability” and “a troll” who might not be serious about actually accepting his challenge.
“He goes online just to get a raise out of people and then he does completely different from what he says,” Reyes said.
Jones accused Reyes of doing the same online, and he vowed to make the young fighter pay for it.
That’s the easy way out, I don’t do easy. There’s absolutely no where in his game I’m intimidated. He’s dangerous in the first round, after that I’ll figure him out and pick them apart https://t.co/BZp5AxZJNg

The UFC has yet to confirm Dominick Reyes as the No. 1 contender for the light heavyweight title. UFC President Dana White was impressed when Reyes destroyed ex-middleweight champion Chris Weidman this past month at UFC on ESPN 6, but declined to say definitively whether he’d vie for the belt.
Reyes still celebrated when Jones gave him the green light. He might also have fueled the champ’s fire a bit more.
