Giga Chikadze vs. Cub Swanson set for May 1 UFC event

Featherweight Giga Chikadze finally has a fight after waiting several months for an opponent to accept a bout.

After struggling to find someone to sign on the dotted line, Chikadze has booked a fight against veteran slugger Cub Swanson for a May 1 UFC event with a venue and location to be announced. The news was first reported by Adjarasport.

Chikadze hoped to outpace middleweight Kevin Holland for activity and showed up to Las Vegas in late 2020 with the aim of booking a short-notice fight, he previously told MMA Fighting. When none materialized, and a bout against Jeremy Stephens was nixed by Stephens’ move to lightweight, he went back to his native Georgia with a 4-0 record in 2020.

Overall, Chikadze is 5-0 in the octagon with his most recent win coming via head kick at UFC Vegas 13. That makes the style matchup prime against Swanson, a technical fighter who’s not afraid to brawl. Swanson is almost three months removed from a knockout win against Daniel Pineda, his second straight win after a four-fight skid endangered his octagon career.

Swanson was targeted to face Gavin Tucker at the May 1 event, which does not yet have an official headliner, but Tucker was rebooked against Dan Ige at UFC Vegas 21.
