Gilbert Burns Praises Jamahal Hill’s ‘Marketing Strategy’ for Alex Pereira Rematch

Gilbert Burns recently had an interesting conversation with Jamahal Hill.

After the confrontation between Hill and Alex Pereira made the rounds on social media, Burns was helping teammate Vicente Luque with his weight cut at the UFC Performance Institute when “Sweet Dreams” made an appearance. On his YouTube channel, Burns revealed what Hill told him.

“When the food has been in the pan for a long time and it will become hard, you have to add water to cook it. That’s what I did,” Burns said, relaying Hill’s words. “I’m going to beat Jiri [Prochazka] and get my revenge before [Magomed] Ankalaev, who will be [observing] Ramadan. I don’t care what people think, everyone’s talking about me after that.

Burns also praised the way Hill handled the recent confrontation with “Poatan.”

“Just like most people, I didn’t like what he did when I saw the video,” Burns said. “But when I heard from him I have to recognize, considering the scenario, Hill was really intelligent. And if you are talking about that, like I am now, it means you were also hooked by Hill´s marketing strategy and you want to see him against ‘Poatan’ again.”

UFC Fight Pass Brazil commentator Carlos Barreto agreed with Burns on his weekly program Papo de Luta.

“I’m an old school guy. I don’t like this kind of attitude, [especially] if the guy kicked my ass, but we have to recognize, considering that Ankalaev is not the most exciting fighter, that by creating this [storyline], Hill can cut the line and reach his goal,” Barreto said.

Hill will face Prochazka at UFC 311 on Jan. 18 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Barreto has tabbed “Sweet Dreams” as the favorite against his Czech opponent.

“In my opinion, Hill will win this fight and bring a different challenge to ‘Poatan’ in the rematch,” Barreto said. “We have to consider that in the first fight Hill was out of shape coming from a serious surgery. He just fought [to fulfill] a UFC request to save the show. I was really impressed by what Hill did in Rio against Glover in a totally hostile atmosphere. He overcame many tough moments and beated a real champion at home . If He beats Jiri and gets the rematch in his best condition, ‘Poatan’ vs Hill 2 will be a hell of a fight.”
