Henry Cejudo Reflects on Final Bout of UFC Career: ‘I Gave It Everything I Had’

Henry Cejudo seems to be at peace with his decision to call it a career.

The Olympic gold medalist and former two-division champion competed for the final time at UFC 323, where he gave a valiant effort but came up short in a unanimous decision loss to Payton Talbott this past Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Cejudo was largely outgunned in the bantamweight contest, but he made his opponent work for victory by turning the fight into a slugfest. As a result, Cejudo was awarded his win bonus by the UFC.

Blaze of Glory

Cejudo reflected on what he confirmed was his final Octagon appearance in a post on Instagram:

Well that’s not exactly how I envisioned the fight playing out – but it wasn’t the worst ending either. The streets are saying I went out in a blaze of glory and after those last 10 seconds I’d have to agree. I gave it everything I had.

Thank you UFC for giving me this life and the ability to extend my athletic career beyond wrestling. I can confidently say I accomplished everything I set out to when I stepped into the octagon in those gold shorts all those years ago.

Thank you to my team. Coaches, teammates, management, and most of all my family. You are the reason I was able to go out there and give this game my very best. I never did it for a paycheck – I did it for you.

Onto the next chapter. Triple C is OUT!

Cejudo initially retired following a bantamweight title victory over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 in May 2020. “Triple C” returned from hiatus in 2023, dropping a split decision to Aljamain Sterling in a 135-pound title bout at UFC 288. The 38-year-old went 0-4 during his comeback stint, also falling to Merab Dvalishvili, Yadong Song and Talbott along the way. His UFC career included notable wins over the likes of Demetrious Johnson, T.J. Dillashaw, Cruz, Marlon Moraes, Sergio Pettis and Jussier Formiga.
