Istela Nunes Fails Drug Test, Pulled from UFC Mexico City Bout Against Angela Hill

Istela Nunes’ first Octagon appearance will have to wait.

The Brazilian was set to take on Angela Hill at UFC Mexico City on Sept. 21 but has been removed from the card due to a failed USADA drug test. Combate first reported the news. The substance for which Nunes tested positive is unknown.

Nunes is coming from a three-bout stint in One Championship, where she beat Mei Yamaguchi by split decision, lost to Angela Lee via submission and then beat Gina Iniong by decision. The 27-year-old left One earlier this year to sign with the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Currently, Hill is expected to remain on the card and if she does stay it will be her fourth time making the walk to the Octagon in 2019. “Overkill” has lost to Randa Markos and Xiaonan Yan this year, while her win came over Jodie Esquibel.

UFC Mexico City will be headlined by a featherweight between Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens.
