Jack Hermansson releases statement, reveals ‘broken eye socket, not a broken spirit’ following UFC Vegas 16

Jack Hermansson’s spirits are high despite his main event loss to Marvin Vettori on Saturday night.

Hermansson and Vettori battled it out in an exciting 25-minute headliner to cap off UFC Vegas 16. In the end, Vettori earned a unanimous decision, while Hermansson earned a few broken bones, as he revealed an in Instagram post following the fight.

“Broken toe and broken eye socket, but not a broken spirit,” Hermansson wrote.

Hermansson has now lost two of his last three and will likely lose his spot in the top-five in the middleweight division. “The Joker” took a four-fight winning streak into his main event matchup with Jared Cannonier in September 2019 and was finished in the second round at UFC Copenhagen. The 32-year-old kicked off his 2020 campaign with an opening-round submission win over Kelvin Gastelum in July.

Before sharing the octagon with Vettori, Hermansson was originally scheduled to face Darren Till, who was forced to withdraw with an injury, and then Kevin Holland before Holland was removed after testing positive for COVID-19.

Vettori has now won four straight following a split decision loss to current champ Israel Adesanya in April 2018.
