Jon Jones appears to have the motivation he needs to return to the Octagon.
After U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to hold a UFC card at the White House last year, Jones revealed on social media that he had re-entered the drug testing pool just two weeks after calling it a career. The catalyst behind that decision seemed to be Trump’s announcement.

In an impromptu airport interview with Joy of Everything on TikTok, Jones stated that he hopes to fight the reigning UFC heavyweight champion at the proposed event, which could theoretically take place on July 4, 2026.
“I would want to take on whoever’s holding the belt at the end of the year,” Jones said. “As of right now, the champion is Tom Aspinall but we’ll see who’s the champion at the end of the year. I feel like it would only be fitting to have an American guy fight for the championship that night.”
After defeating Stipe Miocic via third-round TKO at UFC 309 this past November, Jones never seemed especially excited by the idea of a title unification bout against Aspinall. When “Bones” retired on June 21, Aspinall was elevated to undisputed champion.
Jones: White House Card Will Be ‘Incredibly Iconic’
In this case, the opponent doesn’t seem to matter as much as the venue for Jones.
“I think it’s exciting,” Jones said about the White House card. “Very exciting. I can’t promise anything but I have a very strong feeling that I’ll be on that card.
“I think it’s going to be incredibly iconic. It’s going to be historic. In my opinion, it will be just as big as the Thrilla in Manilla, Rumble in the Jungle, it’s up there with that. It could be bigger than that.”
Aspinall is expected to defend his title before the end of the year. An opponent and date for that fight have yet to be announced.
