Josh Parisian vs. Don’Tale Mayes on tap for UFC event on Dec. 18

Heavyweights will collide at one of the final UFC events of the year.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Josh Parisian (14-4) and Don’Tale Mayes (8-4) is set for the UFC’s event on Dec. 18, which is expected to take place at the APEX in Las Vegas.

After a first-round finish of Chad Johnson to earn a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2020, Parisian has gone 1-1 in his two octagon appearances. In his promotional debut in November, Parisian lost a unanimous decision to Parker Porter, but bounced back in June with a split decision victory over Roque Martinez at UFC Vegas 29.

Mayes also lookd to build upon the momentum of his first UFC win. A fellow Contender Series alum, “Lord Kong” had a tough start to his promotional tenure with back-to-back finish losses to now interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane and Rodrigo Nascimento, but earned a unanimous decision against Martinez this past November at UFC Vegas 14. The 29-year-old was scheduled to face Tai Tuivasa in March before he had to withdraw due to not being medically cleared.
