Van is scheduled to challenge Pantoja for the flyweight title in the main event at UFC 323 on Dec. 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “The Fearless” plans on finishing the champion inside three rounds. However, Van knows every game plan might vanish inside the Octagon. Van expects Pantoja to bring the heat and is ready to go the distance if need be.
Game Plans Can Change
“I feel like I’m going to knock him out inside three rounds,” Van told MMAjunkie.com. “If not, it’s going to be a war. You know Pantoja. That motherf—er is going to bring it, and I’m going to bring it. So, I’m thinking inside three rounds, but I’m prepared for a five-rounder, too. Yeah, let’s just see come Dec. 6. Because you know we can all make game plans and everything but come fight day, it’s completely different. I’m well-prepared for everything, man, of what he’s going to bring to the table come fight night.”
Van (15-2) is 8-1 in the UFC, with his only loss coming against Charles Johnson last year. Myanmar’s Van has since racked up a five-fight winning streak, including wins over Rei Tsuruya, Bruno Silva and Brandon Royval. Meanwhile, Pantoja (30-5) is riding an eight-fight winning streak that includes four title defenses.
