Wellmaker (10-1) was scheduled to make his third UFC appearance against Cody Haddon at UFC 322 earlier this month. However, Haddon was injured and replaced on short notice by Ethyn Ewing. Ewing was a massive underdog going into his UFC debut against Wellmaker. However, Ewing put on a striking clinic to hand Wellmaker his first career loss.

A Learning Experience
Wellmaker recently praised Ewing on his successful UFC debut. Wellmaker believes Ewing is among the rare talents on the regional scene who just need an opportunity to make it to the UFC. Wellmaker has also learned a lot from his loss and feels more confident about achieving his goals now.
“Man, that kid was good,” Wellmaker told Fox54 news. “He deserves to be where he is at. He is one of those few talents on the local scene, and the only thing they haven’t had is an opportunity. He did, and he showed up, and he showed out, and we had an amazing fight. And he showed me a lot of things I can improve on. And I’m a lot more confident in my ability to accomplish the things I was initially set to do before those lessons.”
Ewing’s (9-2) demand for a bonus for his UFC debut was denied. Ewing has since returned to his day job as a safety professional in the construction industry.
