Cejudo (16-6) and Chimaev (15-0) were recently in attendance at an IBA boxing event in Dubai. Though not for the first time, Cejudo offered Chimaev an apology over their past feud. The beef started when Chimaev forgot his hat during an appearance on Cejudo’s podcast with The Schmo. The Schmo subsequently gave the hat to their next guest, Chimaev’s rival, Paulo Costa, who rubbed it on his genitals as Cejudo laughed along. The incident didn’t sit well with Chimaev, who allegedly confronted Cejudo at the Paris Olympics.
Having already apologized to Chimaev in the past, Cejudo recently reiterated his sentiments. Cejudo additionally wants to apologize to Chimaev, as he is friends with the legendary Saitiev brothers, whom “Triple C” idolizes.
“I would like to apologize to Khamzat,” Cejudo told Red Corner MMA. “I don’t want to fight with him. He knows the Saitiev brothers… The whole thing that happened with the hat, I get it. I’m in the content business. For me, I’m trying to always get reactions from people. But I think that was just wrong timing. And if I could say somethin to Khamzat, I’m sorry bro. I apologize. You’re a legend, you paid dues to guys that I look up to. I don’t want to fight with you, bro. So this is a sincere apology to you… I would like to make it right with him. And hopefully we can shake hands. And hopefully he can forgive me as a Christian and him being a Muslim.”
Different Mentalities
Cejudo’s apology was immediately conveyed to Chimaev, who didn’t hesitate to forgive him. However, “Borz” accused Americans of instigating feuds in podcasts without backing it up with action in person.
“I don’t know what reaction to give,” Chimaev told Red Corner MMA. “It’s just that Americans tend to talk nonsense in interviews. Then when you meet them in person, they shake your hand like nothing happened. That’s not our mentality. A person should be genuine in the street, in interviews, everywhere. Of course, I’m not so proud that I wouldn’t forgive someone who asks for forgiveness.”

“Of course I’m not too proud that I wouldn’t forgive someone who asks for forgiveness,” Chimaev told Red Corner MMA at the IBA World Championships in Dubai.
