Khamzat Chimaev’s Coach Reveals Triple-Champ Aspirations

Khamzat Chimaev wants to win Ultimate Fighting Championship titles in multiple divisions.

Chimaev dethroned Dricus Du Plessis via a dominant unanimous decision to win the middleweight title at UFC 319 last month. Chimaev’s grappling coach, Alan Do Nascimento, recently admitted that a move up in weight classes is inevitable for “Borz” in the future. Nascimento also revealed that Chimaev aims to become at least a two-division UFC champion, if not a three-division champion.

“We’re just seeing things as it’s going, we take as it’s coming,” Nascimento said in an interview with shadiofficial. “But of course, there will be a time that we’re gonna be forced to change the division. Khamzat have the dream to become a two-dvision or three-division champion. And the focus now is to go to that.”

Chimaev Faced Struggles Earlier in UFC Career

Chimaev might have realized his double-champ aspirations already if not for the brutal cut he endured to make the welterweight limt. Chimaev’s career has also been plagued by health issues resulting from overtraining and lingering effects of COVID.

Chimaev’s welterweight journey ended for good after he missed weight by a massive 7.5 pounds for his matchup against Nate Diaz at UFC 279 in 2022. The entire main card was reshuffled as a result, and Chimaev won ia first-round submission over Kevin Holland, who was originally supposed to face Daniel Rodriguez. Dana White subsequently confirmed that Chimaev would never fight at welterweight in the UFC again.
