Mauricio Ruffy is now the front-runner for Knockout of the Year.
The Brazilian striker entered his UFC 313 bout with King Green a heavy favorite, and he didn’t disappoint, flooring Green with a wheel kick right to the head two minutes into the opening round. Ruffy’s finishing blow instantly put Green face-down on the canvas and left everyone watching speechless.
Retired UFC veteran Matt Brown, no stranger to highlight-reel finishes himself, declared Ruffy’s strike to be the “KO of the Year” in a tweet.
“Beautiful setup and timing on that one,” Brown added.
UFC analyst Michael Chiesa wrote, simply, “Holy f*cking shit.”
The win improved Ruffy’s UFC record to 3-0, with two of those wins coming by way of first-round knockout. Ruffy is quickly becoming one to watch alongside his fellow up-and-coming stars from The Fighting Nerds team.
