Manager Opens Up on Justin Gaethje’s Claims Regarding UFC Pay

Justin Gaethje’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, recently opened up on the ongoing fighter pay controversy involving “The Highlight.”

Dana White previously said that the UFC’s new Paramount deal guarantees higher pay for fighters. However, Gaethje (27-5) refuted the claims leading up to his UFC 324 interim title fight against Paddy Pimblett last weekend. Gaethje said he wasn’t making a penny more with the Paramount deal than he would have made otherwise. “The Highlight” even disputed Daniel Cormier, who had backed up White’s guarantee of a pay hike.

White subsequently claimed that an additional offer was made to Gaethje, who didn’t respond. Abdelaziz has now confirmed that the UFC indeed made an offer to Gaethje. While Abdelaziz didn’t want to divulge further details, he believes Gaethje wasn’t happy with the offer. Abdelaziz believes financial business is best discussed behind closed doors, and nobody benefits when it’s made public. However, Abdelaziz guarantees that there is no beef between Gaethje and the UFC. After Gaethje won the interim title against Pimblett at UFC 324, Abdelaziz now sees the door open for further negotiation with the UFC.

Everything Worked Out

“I have rules, I don’t talk about financial business,” Abdelaziz told MMAjunkie.com. “Dana was right, an offer was made… Maybe Justin was not okay with the offer. But everything worked out correctly. Now we get to talk… Justin is emotional and he speaks. Justin is not lying. I think nobody in the UFC deserves to make more money than Justin Gaethje… If you think you want money and you want to talk about it, we can talk behind closed doors. I think nobody wins when people talk about money publicly… There is no beef between the UFC and Justin Gaethje. Justin Gaethje is like every other athlete in the world, who want to get paid a lot and lot of money.”
