Despite landing a second-round knockdown, Marlon Vera suffered his third consecutive defeat in Ultimate Fighting Championship competition on Saturday night.
The former bantamweight title challenger failed to capitalize on that momentum, as he was outworked by Aiemann Zahabi in a closely-contested split decision at UFC Vancouver. “Chito” voiced his frustration with the judges’ scorecards in a post-fight statement on social media.

“Sometimes things can get really dark,” Vera wrote. “But not giving up will get you light. Don’t get it twisted, I won tonight. We got robbed in Canada.”
Stats Did Not Favor Vera at UFC Vancouver
While Vera authored the fight’s most memorable moment, he was outlanded by an 81-to-56 count in significant strikes over the course of the contest. Zahabi landed more strikes — and was more accurate — in all three frames. Eleven of the 15 media scorecards tracked by MMADecisions.com had the fight in favor of the Tristar Gym product, while judges Michael Bell and Jake Maxim provided 29-28 tallies for Zahabi. Meanwhile, Sal D’Amato submitted the 29-28 scorecard in favor of Vera.
Vera’s current skid began with a unanimous decision loss to Sean O’Malley in a 135-pound title bout at UFC 299. Since then, he has also fallen to Deiveson Figueiredo and Zahabi.
