Missed Fists: Fighter nails wacky hanging armbar, more

Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists where we shine a light on fights from across the globe that may have been overlooked in these hectic times where it seems like there’s an MMA show every other day.

October has arrived and what better way to get a head start on Halloween than with some spooktacular MMA highlights (just play along with the theme, okay)?

(Big thanks as always to @Barrelelapierna for their weekly lists of the best KOs and submissions, and to @Grabaka_Hitman for uploading many of the clips you see here. Give them a follow and chip in on Patreon if you can.)

Marvin Miekley vs. Thomas Aldemir

Marvin Miekley must be from Transylvania, because he was hanging upside down like a vampire bat while attacking Thomas Aldemir with an armbar at a German Mixed Martial Arts Federation event this past Saturday.

Get it, vampire bat? Like Dracula? Is it maybe too early for the Halloween stuff? No, I’m powering through.

The full GEMMAF event is available for free on YouTube.

Okay, that last gag may have been a stretch, but if this next clip from Monday’s World Ertaymash Federation event (replay available on YouTube) in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, doesn’t send a chill up your spine, nothing will.

That’s Zhalilov Argen getting the win there by way of… blood-letting? Remember, kids, it’s never wrong to tap to strikes especially if you need a second so that you can release all the blood from your face like a valve.

Kenny Cockerill vs. Justin Rogers

We used to hand out an award around these parts called the “He/She Fell Funny,” that has since been renamed the Humpty Dumpty Award. Even if we hadn’t changed the name, this knockout of Justin Rogers by Kenny Cockerill wouldn’t be a He Fell Funny, this is a He Fell Scary!

From Maverick MMA 17 (replay available via PPV) in Lake Harmony, Pa.:

Cockerill was just headhunting from the moment the second round started. This was going to end with someone going to sleep and unfortunately for Rogers, his number got called this time.

The way that head whips around… oof.

Sharif Koshaev vs. Kadir Suliev

And one last Halloween-themed highlight, from ATFC 3 (replay available on YouTube) in Uzbekistan.

I don’t believe in ghosts, but I definitely witnessed Kadir Suliev’s spirit leave his body and then rush back into it after eating this ground-and-pound from Sharif Koshaev.

We’ll never question persistence around these parts, but Suliev, my dude, you gotta let go of that leg! He really underestimated Koshaev’s ability to execute the most effective of submission defense techniques: the punch in da face.

Rustam Teuvazhukov vs. Shakhriyor Panjiev

Okay, back to just some regular weirdness, courtesy of Rustam Teuvazhukov at AMC Fight Nights Global last Friday.

This is the first baseball bat choke I’ve ever seen.

I honestly don’t know how this hold works, I guess it’s just another way to dig the arms in and cut off the blood to someone’s head, but I wonder if Shakhriyor Panjiev just panic-tapped because it was so out of left field (another baseball reference!).

Ramazonbek Temirov vs. Daniel Conceicao

And now to continue with the baseball theme, here’s Ramazonbek Temirov swinging for the fences and landing a home run knockout of Daniel Conceicao at Future MMA 13 (replay available on YouTube) in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

And that’s it for the baseball stuff. That didn’t last very long. Did it even make sense? I mean, the playoffs are just around the corner. Look, I’m not great at theming!

Aleksandrs Chizhovs vs. Vitaliy Stoyan

At World Warriors Fighting Championships 20 (free replay available here) in Kyiv, Ukraine, Aleksandrs Chizhovs had the best all-around highlight of the week.

Not only did Chizhovs win a welterweight title, he did it in style. First, he landed a perfectly placed left hook that caused a Humpty Dumpty fall, then he capped it off with a sweet victory dance.

Watch how little force he has to put behind that hook. Just so well-timed and right on the button.

Jeremiah Curtright vs. Omoyele Gonzalez

Knockout of the Year might be overselling this Jeremiah Curtright jumping knee from Shamrock Fighting Championships 331 (PPV replay available on FITE), but we never leave out a solid Masvidal impression.

Gotta do the walkoff after hitting one of these, though even Masvidal chose not to do that.

Ewelina Wozniak vs. Samin Kamal Beik
Josh Silveira vs. Tee Cummins

Strawweight Ewelina Wozniak (Brave CF) and light heavyweight Josh Silveira (Legacy Fighting Alliance) are all but guaranteed to be big show bound in the near future after these finishes.

Wozniak makes her second Missed Fists appearance (she first caught our eye with a thudding right hand knockout a couple of years back) and it’s a good one as she continued to show her standout finishing power with a liver knee knockout of Samin Kamal Beik.

Make it 6-0 now for Wozniak, the latest killer out of Poland.

Then there’s newly crowned LFA light heavyweight champ Silveira, who earned that title with a massive head kick KO.

I’ll be shocked if we don’t see Silveira on the Contender Series soon or, even better, signed outright to a major promotion.

You know what, let’s return to our spooky Halloween theme for the last clip of the week.

It was a Trick-or-Treat night for Jordan Heiderman as he picked up the easiest and probably also the worst win of his career. On the one hand, his opponent Chad Johnson got himself disqualified just 25 seconds into the contest.

On the other hand, he won because of this:

What a way to get your win bonus.
