Magny (30-13) took on fellow veteran Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos at UFC Vegas 108 on Saturday. While Magny acquitted himself well on the feet early, the Brazilian took him down and maintained top control for part of the second round. However, “The Haitian Sensation” rallied back with knees to hurt Zaleski dos Santos, following up with ground-and-pound to procure the stoppage late into Round 2.

It seemed like it couldn’t get any better for Magny than to return to the win column with a finish on the night before turning 38. However, just as Magny was celebrating his victory with a chocolate chip cake, one of his Elevation Fight Team coaches crashed his post-fight interviews to present him with his jiu-jitsu black belt.

“It feels great,” the grizzled vet remarked with a grin during the post-fight media scrum. “Any time you get any appreciation for hard work, it feels good to get that reward.”
Magny’s matchup against Zaleski dos Santos was a change from his usual bookings of testing up-and-coming young prospects. With 35 UFC outings under his belt, Magny has squared off against most of what the welterweight division has had to offer. Elite talents like Shavkat Rakhmonov, Ian Garry, Michael Morales and Carlos Prates have all needed to go through Magny to establish themselves in the rankings. Meanwhile, Magny has derailed multiple hype trains of potential rising stars over the years, and he is no stranger to staging mighty comebacks after taking serious damage.
