Renato Moicano withdraws from Fight Island clash with Magomed Mustafaev

Renato Moicano was set to make his second appearance as a lightweight in the UFC on Oct. 17, taking on Magomed Mustafaev in Abu Dhabi’s Fight Island, but he was pulled from the bout, sources confirmed to MMA Fighting following a report from Ag. Fight.

It’s still unclear if the UFC will book Mustafaev against a new opponent at the Fight Night event in Abu Dhabi. The card will be headlined by Brian Ortega vs. “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.

Moicano (14-3-1) impressed in his 155-pound debut in March, making short work of Damir Hadzovic with a 44-second rear-naked choke finish in Brazil. Moicano went 5-3 as a featherweight in the octagon, including wins over Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens.

Mustafaev (14-4) won three of five under the UFC banner since 2015, a trio of stoppages of Rafael Fiziev, Joe Proctor and Piotr Hallmann. “The Sniper” is looking to get back on track after losing a split decision to Brad Riddell in February.
