The Ultimate Fighting Championship has summoned a former fighter to save the Shanghai card.

Michel Pereira (31-13) was originally scheduled to face Marco Tulio at UFC Fight Night 257, also known as UFC Shanghai, on Aug. 23 at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. However, Tulio is out of the fight due to unknown reasons and will be replaced by UFC veteran Kyle Daukaus (15-4) on two weeks’ notice. The news was first reported by Portuguese outlet Ag. Fight.

While Daukaus joined the UFC as the Cage Fury Fighting Championships middleweight champ in 2020, his first stint in the promotion didn’t pan out as planned. After going 2-4-1 in the UFC, Daukaus was released following a stoppage loss against Eryk Anders in 2022.

Kyle, the younger brother of UFC veteran Chris Daukaus, returned to his roots and established another Cage Fury FC title reign, which has now been rewarded with another UFC contract. Daukaus’ scheduled CFFC title defence against Guram Gochashvili on Aug. 30 has been canceled.

Meanwhile, Pereira permanently moved up to middleweight after a weight-cutting scare in 2023. “Demolidor” earned three straight first-round finishes before dropping two in a row against top-tier opponents Anthony Hernandez and Abusupiyan Magomedov.
