Former fighter Assuerio Silva, 51, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident on Monday afternoon in the Nova Betânia neighborhood of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil.
According to a post by blogger Ismael Souza, Silva collided with a car and suffered a severed foot and a fractured arm. Assuério was reportedly promptly treated by local medical teams and taken to the Tarcisio Maia Regional Hospital (HRTM), where he remains hospitalized.
A native of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, Assuério built an international career in the sport, competing in the world’s biggest events. The Chute Boxe heavyweight representative fought three times in Pride Fighting Championships (two wins and one loss) and three times in the UFC (three losses to Brandon Vera, Tim Sylvia, and Cheick Congo). He retired in 2009 with a record of 16 wins (seven knockouts and seven submissions) and eight losses.

Interestingly, Assuério is considered the pivotal point in the rivalry between BTT and Chute Boxe. The disagreement began when Yoshihisa Yamamoto — his opponent at Pride 16 — went to train with BTT members backstage two days before the event. Mario Sperry, leader of BTT, tried to explain to Rudimar Fedrigo, leader of Chute Boxe, that the training session was just a photo shoot requested by the Japanese magazine, Gong, but the Chute Boxe leader refused and declared war on Carlson Gracie’s disciples, beginning a rivalry that marked the 10-year anniversary of the Pride era. Curiously Assuério just needed 11 seconds to knock out Yamamoto, marking a KO record in Pride at the time.
