Per a release from One Championship on Wednesday, “Reug Reug” Kane (7-1) has been involved in what they are calling a “serious car accident.” The heavyweight born in Senegal was preparing to put his belt on the line against the man he took it from on Anatoly Malykhin. Kane will not be able to compete for the foreseeable future, although a member of his management team suggested an April turnaround.

“ONE Heavyweight MMA World Champion ‘Reug Reug’ was involved in a serious car accident,” the promotion wrote on Wednesday. “His World Title defense against Anatoly Malykhin is postponed. We’ll share more updates as they come, and we wish ‘Reug Reug’ a swift and full recovery.”
Some Facts
In response to this news, Black Panther Sport—Kane’s management team—posted some follow-up information on his Instagram Stories on Thursday providing more details on the heavyweight’s condition. According to manager Kedu Uchegbu, if he did not intervene, Kane would still have tried to fight on Sunday, Nov. 16.
“Some facts,” Uchegbu wrote. “1) ‘Reug Reug’ isn’t dead. 2) He won his last two fights with serious injuries and still made it look easy. 3) We ready to go [in] April you will get these hands [Malykhin]. 4) If I didn’t pull him from the fight he would have still fought in Japan these weekend, same way he didn’t tell me about his injury in the last fight so he could fight injured. 5) This guy is from the mud he isn’t scared to fight [anybody], boy.”
The 33-year-old from Thiaroye Sur Mer has only averaged one appearance a year the last couple years. The big man burst onto the scene in 2021 with a pair of first-round obliterations of Alain Ngalani and Patrick Schmid, but a stone wall in the form of Kirill Grishenko handed him his first career defeat mere weeks after his knockout of Schmid. Since then, Kane has rattled off four wins, the last three on the scorecards, including a split decision over Malykhin that wrested the crown from the Russian to hand Malykhin his first career loss.
