Sean Brady has a bold prediction for the UFC 322 main event.
Islam Makhachev (27-1) will challenge Jack Della Maddalena (18-2) for the welterweight title in the main event at UFC 322 on Nov. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Brady would prefer Makhachev to win, as he wants to fight the former lightweight champ. Besides the lure of testing his own wrestling against Makhachev’s, Brady also believes that the matchup will be better for his legacy. However, as a bettor, Brady would pick the champ to defend his title with an upset win.
“Selfishly, for me, I would want Islam to win,” Brady said on UFC Unfiltered. “Because I want to fight Islam, as for a legacy thing. I think I can beat Islam, I think I can beat anybody in the world. I want to grapple, I want my grappling to go against his grappling and see who’s better. Everybody would love for that to play out. But if I had to pick — and I know Jack would be the underdog — I would pick Jack.”
Makhachev is riding a 15-fight winning streak that includes four lightweight title defenses. Meanwhile, Maddalena is riding an 18-fight winning streak, capped by an upset title win over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 this past May.
Brady Seeks Return to Action Later This Year
Meanwhile, Brady was originally hoping to fight Ian Garry at UFC Vancouver in October but accused the Irishman of ducking. Brady is looking to return to action later this year against Garry, Muhammad, or Shavkat Rakhmonov. Brady has expressed disappointment with Makhachev moving up to welterweight, as it complicates the title picture for longtime contenders. Brady believes Makhachev will move back to lightweight after a couple of defenses if he dethrones Maddalena. Meanwhile, Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, said that Brady would be a stylistically easy matchup for his teammate.
