Son of Famed Boxer Arturo Gatti Dead at 17 Years Old

Arturo Gatti Jr., the son of popular boxer Arturo Gatti, was found dead in his apartment at 17 years old.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I have to say,…. R.I.P. to 17-year-old ARTURO GATTI JR. who was found hanging in an apartment in Mexico yesterday. The same way they found his Father dead in an apartment in Brazil 16 years ago,” wrote Gatti’s former bodyguard, Chuck Zito, on social media.

Arturo Gatti Jr. was reportedly following in his late father’s footsteps by pursuing a boxing career. Gatti Jr.’s coach, Moe Latif, also confirmed his death on social media.

“It is unfortunately not a rumor or a joke. Arturo is gone,” Latif wrote.

Cause of Elder Gatti’s Death Remains a Mystery

The elder Gatti was a boxing champion in two weight classes who was known for his entertaining style in the ring. He died on July 11, 2009 and while his wife was initially arrested for homicide, Gatti’s death was ultimately ruled a suicide. Later investigations were unable to prove a conclusive cause of death. Gatti was inducted into International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012.
