Ariane Carnelossi needs a new opponent for UFC Uruguay after Taila Santos withdrew from the card with a wrist injury, sources told MMA Fighting. The Fight Night card is scheduled to go down at the Antel Arena in Montevideo on Aug. 10.
Santos (15-1), who suffered her first professional loss to Mara Romero Borella in her UFC debut in February, was originally scheduled to face Ashlee Evans-Smith in Montevideo, but Carnelossi eventually stepped in to replace Evans-Smith.
It’s still unclear if the UFC will be able to find a new foe for Carnelossi (12-1), who signed with the promotion to fight Santos in Uruguay on short notice after winning 12 in a row in Brazil. “Sorriso”, who originally competes as a strawweight, agreed to move up to 125 pounds for the opportunity to fight in the Octagon.
UFC Uruguay will be headlined by a flyweight championship contest, with Valentina Shevchenko defending her 125-pound title in a rematch with Liz Carmouche. In the co-main event, Volkan Oezdemir and Ilir Latifi battle in a 205-pound fight.
